The Changing Face of Caregiving
Caregiving can be exhausting, overwhelming, and place a
tremendous financial burden on all involved. Where would I trun if my parent
needed help at home? Who would I call for assistance? If I knew my company had
access to a network of caregivers, would that alleviate some of the pressure and
stress associated with caring for my aging parent?
Eldercare is a problem that will grow dramatically in the
coming decades. As a society, we’ve done little to plan for aging. And as long
as our parents are healthy, we deny that we’re ever going to face this problem,
until it takes on crisis proportions.
Looking forward, many companies are beginning to understand
the impact this has on employees and on company resources. With the right
planning and resources in place, employees are better prepared to handle
caregiving responsibilities and the challenges they may face.
Cost of lost productivity due to aging caregiving
- Costs companies over $11.4 billion per year
- $33 million – for Alzheimer’s Disease alone
- More than 40 million Americans are 65 years +
- Within the next five years, 37% of U.S. workers will be
caring for an older adult rather than a child
- High rates of absenteeism
If you find yourself puzzled, just imagine what it would be
like in the midst of a crisis. We at Seniors Action Service understand how
stressful these situations can be and offer a wide range of services to meet
your needs.
